Your Jesus or Mine?

Your Jesus or Mine?

“Don’t push your Jesus on me.”

You may have heard these words or similar sentiments if you have tried to share your thoughts on your beliefs with others. And it’s fair really. It reveals the ways that Jesus has been misrepresented by those claiming to be His followers. Has there been any other name by which people have used (grossly misused) to justify judgement and hate? But there are two Jesus’s – a false Jesus and a real Jesus. In fact, there are countless portrayals of false Jesus. A Jesus who is disappointed in you. A Jesus who’s annoyed because you haven’t gotten it together yet, a Jesus that expects you to be perfect, a Jesus who is unapproachable until you get it all together. These are just a few examples of false Jesus – there are countless others. So I get it. If that’s your Jesus, don’t push your Jesus on me either. That Jesus is false. And that Jesus should be rejected. That Jesus steals, kills, and destroys. That false Jesus, takes away from everything the real Jesus came to do.

In the gospel of Luke, Luke records that the real Jesus boldly declared, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free” – Luke 4:18

This is Jesus. The real Jesus.

Not many people would say, don’t push good news, freedom, healing, and clarity of sight on me. So what are people saying when they make the statement, “Don’t push your Jesus on me,” or something similar? What they really mean is don’t push more rules and sanctimonious judgment on me. And rightfully so. I feel the same way and I wholly agree. To anyone peddling such religion, please take it somewhere else. But to those of us searching for love, acceptance, freedom, healing, compassion, wisdom, no condemnation, grace, and truth, you will find them all in the real Jesus.

In my Jesus –

Love is greater than all sin,

Acceptance is freely given to the unacceptable,

Freedom is available wherever His spirit is,

Healing was paid for on His cross,

Compassion moves within His heart,

Wisdom is revealed to those who simply ask,

Condemnation is completely withheld from you in Christ,

Grace and Truth are fully embodied in Him and He has given Himself to you and for you.

This is my Jesus. This is the real Jesus.

This leads me to a few questions.

For those claiming to be His followers – Which Jesus do you portray with your words and actions? A false Jesus or the real Jesus?

For those who have heard and seen a false Jesus many times before and are so repulsed:

Is the real Jesus described here someone you would still push away? Or perhaps you might reconsider the idea that you have been shown a false Jesus and the real Jesus is ready and waiting for you right where you are with arms wide open? If so, there’s no pressure. He’ll be waiting when you’re ready. Because the real Jesus is also patient and kind.

To be clear there is only one Jesus – the Christ. The Messiah. The One Who innocently took each one of our places on a Cross to die a sinner’s death so that we didn’t have to. He paid a debt He did not owe, so that we can have reconciliation to our Father God as – pure, spotless, and blameless in His sight, without shame, guilt and condemnation because of Jesus.

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” – Romans 8:1

Thank you Jesus!

This is the real Jesus.

This is my Jesus.

On your journey consider this – Throughout time attachments have been put on Jesus to satisfy man’s manipulation. This is a false Jesus. But the real Jesus is not mad at you, He’s mad about you.
