Day 6 – Who He Says I Am Series
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 15:57
In Christ –
YOU ARE VICTORIOUS
I am a big fan of sitcoms. At the end of a long day, I love to sit down and watch a good, comical, feel-good show that requires little to no brain activity. My favorite character is usually the underdog. I most relate to the character that loses the talent show, gets picked last for dodgeball, or gets punched in the gut while they’re already down. Usually, in a well written sitcom, the situation is relatable and makes us laugh even though the character is actually feeling quite defeated. The statement, “It’s funny because it’s true,” definitely rings true here. We laugh because we’ve been there. We have felt defeated. Oftentimes the enemy tells us we are defeated and we can’t ever overcome our current situation. Maybe you are feeling that way today and it’s not as comical as the sitcoms make it out to be. It hurts and it’s scary. One of the enemy’s most successful strategies for believers is to keep them feeling defeated by keeping them deceived from knowing their true identity – that we are victorious. A way to combat this is to understand that even though on earth there are over 7000 known languages, there are really only 2 languages in the spiritual realm that exist – the language of heaven and the language of hell. Learning how to recognize the difference is crucial to being alert to the enemy’s lies. If you are hearing shame, guilt, fear, pressure, condemnation, in anything you read, think, or are told by another person, this is the language of hell. This is the language of oppression. It is not from God. The language of heaven will instead gently whisper love, kindness, goodness, blessing, forgiveness, and grace. You may have noticed that the language of hell even occasionally comes from “godly” people or even scripture that has been twisted. Matthew and Luke both remind us in their gospels, to not be led astray. Teachers will come claiming to speak in His name. These teachers may even be a victim of false teaching themselves and don’t even know it when they are repeating it. But you can be sure that if it isn’t love, grace, hope, goodness, forgiveness, unity, protection and peace, it’s not the language of heaven. When fear creeps in with harmful lies and tells you that there is no hope, recognize that this is the language of hell. If you are feeling desperate or in despair, know that these feelings are not from the Lord and they are not a reflection of who you really are. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:11 that “The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us.” Rest in knowing that it’s His power that overcomes, not anything that you have to muster up within yourself. He fights our battles as we rest gently in the palm of His mighty hands. Do you see yourself there? Close your eyes and imagine yourself being held as if in a hammock of his loving, protective, and caring arms. Our Daddy in heaven loves us far too much to let us fail. While we may define failure or earthly success in a different way than He would, ultimately we know that Jesus wins. In fact, He has already won. He boldly declared that “It is finished!” when He defeated sin and death. Rise up overcomer, for you are alive in the One who defeated it all and He is alive in you. You are who He says you are and He says that you are victorious.
He who lives in you has overcome the world. (John 16:33) And He gives you the victory.
VICTORIOUS – is your Identity!
You don’t have to work to be Victorious, you already are Victorious because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.
Daily Reminder
– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.
– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.
Good News – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.
We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)
Rest in Him today.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reigning in victory and giving that victory to me. Remind me in Your sweet whispers today that I am victorious. I am not a victim of my circumstances. I am an overcomer because You overcame. Thank You Jesus!
