CHILD OF GOD

Day 7 – Who He Says I Am Series

“Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” – John 1:12

In Christ –

YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD

He adopted you by bringing you to Himself through Jesus. (Ephesians 1:5)

My family has been forever touched and changed by the beautiful gift that is adoption.  My brother and sister-in-love adopted my nephew in 2016.  His name is Luke which means “light,” and he truly is a light to not only our family but anyone who meets him.  Watching the adoption process happen is an amazing thing.  An adopted child is chosen, wanted, and longed for.  There is no accident or suprise involved. It is a deliberate choice. The parents make an intentional decision to bring in, embrace, protect, love, provide for, teach, nurture, and impart to the child everything that they are and everything that they have.  This adopted child is given a new name. A family name. The child is no longer alone, but a cherished part of a forever family. Just like my nephew was given a new name, so were you. Child of God is who you are now. Daddy God, through the innocent blood of His Son Jesus, intentionally decided to bring you in, embrace you, protect you, love you, provide for you, teach you, nurture you, and bless you with every good blessing in the heavenly realms because you are His child. Chosen. Forevermore. Not based on what you do or your goodness, but based on His. Because of His goodness, you are a Child of God. Your identity is not based on your behavior but on the declaration of who God says you are. Daddy God wants you, planned for you, sacrificed for you, sees you in your situation and wants to rescue you. He calls you His child. So that is what you are. The Psalmist David reminds us that, “God sets the lonely in families.” If you feel trapped and alone, that is not God’s plan for you. He longs to embrace you if you will let HIm. He “leads the prisoners out with singing.” (Psalm 68:6) “With singing,” is my favorite phrase of that verse. Ahhh…listen to His joy, His delight in you. He delights in rescuing you. He delights in loving you as you are. He delights in fathering you. I have a coffee mug that my husband and my 3 kids gave to me one Mother’s Day and the words whimsically written on it say, “Mommyin’ Ain’t Easy.” Needless to say, it’s my favorite mug, because it’s funny and it’s true. In my human strength, all the tasks of being mom take much time, dedication, commitment, and energy. Truth be told it can be downright exhausting sometimes. But look at the contrast here. God is delighted. Instead of a mug that says, “Daddyin’ Ain’t Easy,” Our Daddy in Heaven has a mug that says, “Daddyin’ is my Joy,” or “Daddyin’ is my Delight” or even “I Joyfully Chose, Planned, Paid For, Forgave, Accept Every Part of, Delight in Daily, Daddyin’ My Child” mug in honor if you. (ok so maybe that wouldn’t fit on a mug). But this is who He is and because of who He is and His great love for you, you are chosen as His child.

CHILD OF GOD – is your Identity!

Daily Reminder

You don’t have to work to be a Child of God, you already are a Child of God because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.

– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.

– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.

Good News  – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.

We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Rest in Him today.

Daddy God,

Thank You for adopting me and bringing me into Your family. Thank You for loving me and delighting in me. We both know there are times when I am not lovable or delightful, but You choose to love me and delight in me because of who you are. Your Grace to me is so amazing! Thank You Jesus!
