BLESSED

Day 11 – Who He Says I Am Series

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

– Ephesians 1:3

In Christ –

YOU ARE BLESSED

He bestows unmerited favor and abundant blessings on you as His chosen beneficiary of His spiritual inheritance. (Colossians 1:12)

I used to believe that my good deeds brought blessings and my bad deeds brought curses, but thanks to divine revelation from Holy Spirit, I realized that this was what religion had taught me. Not Love. This is a religious mindset. The mindset of self righteousness. This mindset of self righteousness says that good deeds earn you righteousness and blessings.  While it is true that on this earth, choices have consequences, which means that wise choices often times, result in a desired outcome and poor choices result in an undesired outcome, the spiritual realm works much differently.  We are so accustomed to how we see things in the natural, that sometimes we use the natural as a way to define God. Instead we should be letting God define our natural experience.  We are spiritual beings having an earthly experience, not earthly beings having a spiritual experience.  Fortunately, in God’s economy, everything is usually the inverse of how things are in this natural world.  The worldly way is – do good, get good. Do bad, get bad.  You may have also heard of this as karma. Unfortunately, we transfer this performance based religion into our relationship with God.  Only thankfully, God doesn’t operate or relate to us in this way.  God placed all of our sin, sin that wasn’t His, onto Jesus. He became our sin and took in His body the full wrath for it.  Jesus didn’t deserve that.  Jesus did that for us out of His great love for us.  Because of what He did for us on the cross, we receive His righteousness.  We don’t deserve that either.  Do you see how God’s economy works?  Love changes everything. Love reverses the natural order of things.  This is because Love isn’t natural. Love is supernatural.  The supernatural Love of God caused Jesus to willingly receive a punishment He didn’t deserve on our behalf, and in return allowed us to receive righteousness and blessings that we didn’t earn.  This is God’s way.  This is Love’s way. Jesus earned every blessing in our place.  There’s nothing we need to do to work to be blessed.  We are blessed because of Jesus.  We are blessed because of His goodness, not ours.  We are blessed because He is a good Father who gives good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11). We are blessed, you are blessed,  because you are deeply and extravagantly loved. A love not based on what you do, but on who (and whose) you are.

BLESSED – is your Identity!

Daily Reminder

You don’t have to work to be Blessed, you already are Blessed because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.

– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.

– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.

Good News  – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.

We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Rest in Him today.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your blessings in my life. Thank You that even though I didn’t earn them, You want to give them to me because You are good. Your blessings come from Your character, not because of mine. Everything good in my life comes from Your hand. Thank You Jesus!
