LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Day 15 – Who He Says I Am Series

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

– Matthew 5:14 (ESV)

In Christ –

YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Because you are in union with Christ and He (and His Light) dwells within you, you are a light of grace, truth, hope, redemption, acceptance, forgiveness, and love.

We call the light that we can see visible light or white light, but did you know that “white light” is actually made up of a number of colors? Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. You may have learned those colors with the acronym “Roy G Biv” for the order of the rainbow. This is because of the rainbow phenomenon. A rainbow is only seen under certain meteorological conditions when light is refracted in water droplets, displaying a beautiful array of the entire light spectrum in the sky. Similarly, the body of Christ is made up of all different people from all different races, backgrounds, tribes, and tongues. Each and every person is a unique expression of Christ in this world. How many times have you looked at another believer and thought they are better than you? Maybe you have downplayed your unique talents and abilities or even your story and testimony because you believe it’s not as important or impressive as someone else’s. Or maybe the opposite is true. Maybe like the older brother in the parable of The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), you have looked at others and thought you should be seen by God as better than they are, by behaving yourself and conducting your life in a “holier” way than others. I love how the Father in the parable loves both of his sons – the prodigal who returned and the one who never left. The Father celebrates the son who returns, but the one who struggled to celebrate, is the one who thought he had earned the Father’s love. Sadly, the brother that stayed didn’t understand that the love of the Father is based on the Father’s character, not the son’s – either of them. Both sons are recipients of the Father’s extravagant display of His love. Just like white light needs all the colors in order to shine bright, the body of Christ needs all different flavors. The person you are comparing yourself to may not be able to love on or relate to the specific people that will be placed in your path the way that Holy Spirit can love on them through you. You are uniquely you and you have a unique story. Embrace the you that God created you to be and let that light shine. Resist the temptation to compare yourself to others. Comparing only leads to shame or pride and neither of those are who you are. Every part of who you are, even the parts of you and your story that you wish were different can be used for His purposes. He loves every part of you and every part of your story. Let it shine like a city on a hill. You and your uniqueness are a vital part of the body of Christ. You are a light in this world.

LIGHT OF THE WORLD – is your Identity!

Daily Reminder

You don’t have to work to be the Light of the World, you already are the Light of the World because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.

– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.

– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.

Good News  – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.

We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Rest in Him today.

Daddy in Heaven,

Thank You for placing Your light inside of me. Thank you for making me unique. Your goodness in me, makes me shine. As I rest in Your love for me today, give me opportunities to love on someone who is needing a touch from You. Thank You Jesus!
