SEATED IN HEAVENLY PLACES

Day 17 – Who He Says I Am Series

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus”

– Ephesians 2:6

In Christ –

YOU ARE SEATED IN HEAVENLY PLACES

Looking for your name on the place setting at a formal event can be exciting and nerve racking. Have you ever been to an event where the host has assigned a place for you? Maybe a wedding reception, or an exclusive dinner party, or even a classroom with assigned seats? For those who are assigned a place of honor, locating your place can feel flattering and exciting. But when you are assigned to a place that you don’t want to be, you may feel overwhelmed, trapped, or anxious. Once, I was invited to what I thought was a casual dinner party with friends and when I arrived, the host had placed name cards dictating where to sit. Suddenly the evening felt less casual and more controlled. The place I was seated felt as though there was an agenda in place to control conversation. It was uncomfortable and kept me on edge. I couldn’t relax.  However, there was another time that a place card was set for me. The table had been beautifully prepared and my favorite flowers – tulips, were waiting there to greet me. There was only one table set and every one of my closest friends including my mom were placed around it. I had never felt so honored, so comfortable, and so celebrated before. It was my bridesmaids’ luncheon. Sitting down to this table brought comfort, familiarity, ease of conversation, laughter, celebration, and safety. This is the picture of being seated in heavenly realms. Your place card could have been put in a number of places, but Jesus has placed you with HIm. You are one of His closest friends. Seated in a place of honor. Seated is the posture He has given you. This passage could have said standing or running or working, but it doesn’t. Seated is a posture of rest. Rest for our souls. Recognize today that Christ did the work, the earning, the achieving for you and spiritually, you are seated (aorist, active, indicative verb tense in the Greek meaning it is done for you). You are relaxed and seated at rest in Him. Notice that not only does He give you a posture, but He also gives you a place. The Heavenly Realms is the ultimate place of honor. But you aren’t put there alone, you are seated there with Him and in Him.

This is a reminder that this earth is not our home. We are but visitors here.  We are spiritual beings having a temporary earthly experience, not earthly beings having a temporary spiritual experience. So be reminded that when your circumstances and situations seem to dictate or define your state of being, that it is only temporary. That doesn’t mean that the temporary isn’t overwhelming at times, but it does mean by very definition that it won’t last, that Jesus has overcome and joy comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5) The Heavenly Realms operate by Heavenly rules not by this world’s rules and limitations. In the Heavenly Realms God is victorious and has the final say over the outcome of your circumstances. Whatever you’re going through, your story is not over. Whatever the enemy means for harm, God will use it for good. (Genesis 50:20) God has lifted you up to rest in realms beyond the natural. It’s a place of reconciliation and peace. Take a deep breath in the Posture and Place you have been given. You have been seated in heavenly places. You have been made to rest. Because Christ has done a perfect and finished work, we now rest in Him.

SEATED IN HEAVENLY PLACES – is your Identity!

Daily Reminder

You don’t have to work to be Seated In Heavenly Places, you already are Seated In Heavenly Places because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.

– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.

– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.

Good News  – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.

We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Rest in Him today.

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for giving me rest in a place of honor. Thank You that while my circumstances can feel overwhelming at times, I can take comfort knowing that You are with me and that my troubles pale in comparison to your power. I am safe in Your arms. Thank You Jesus!
