CHOSEN HOLY ROYAL PRIEST

Day 20 – Who He Says I Am Series

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light”

– 1 Peter 2:9

In Christ –

YOU ARE A CHOSEN HOLY ROYAL PRIEST

Most of us are familiar with the concept of priests. A Priest is one who is chosen by God. The priest receives divine words and revelations directly from God.  The priest is the one standing between sinful man and a Holy God to make intercession and act as a mediary.  Along with the Protestant Reformation and teachings from Martin Luther, in Protestantism, Martin Luther declared that to understand the New Covenant established in Christ’s blood is to understand that Jesus is now our High priest and that High Priest dwells inside of His followers making them each and all a royal priesthood.  The original concept of holy priests goes back to the 12 tribes of ancient Israel.  In the Old Covenant, God chose a tribe – the tribe of Levi to be the priests among His people. This system was set up for a specific time and for a specific people. During that time, God’s people would go into the temple to worship, but only the priest was allowed to go into the Holy of Holies. In fact, only the High Priest among the priests was allowed to go into the place where the presence of God dwelled within the Arc of the Covenant.  At that time, there was a series of steps for cleansing that the High Priest had to complete before He was allowed to enter. And even then, they would tie a rope to his ankle because if one of the steps was not completed perfectly, the priest would fall down dead in the presence of a Holy God. This was not an act of anger by God. This simply showed the level of holy perfection that had to be met in order to be in God’s presence.  That level of holy perfection was met once for all time through Jesus on the cross on our behalf.  The moment sin was crucified in the body of Jesus on the cross, something profoundly supernatural took place. The veil in the temple that divided people from God’s presence was torn. (AMAZING!) The veil was not torn by human hands. No, the veil was rent from top to bottom. Being torn from the top is a very important detail because human hands would only be able to reach to tear from the bottom up, not from the top down. Before this specific moment in time, the veil had separated the Arc of the Covenant (God’s dwelling place) from the people, and only those who were chosen as priests could go into God’s presence. But now, because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross, we are no longer separated. We are now priests. Chosen and holy. There is now no one between you and God, as your body is now the temple of the indwelling Christ. However, even in Protestantism today there continues to be a perceived lack – that we are not good enough and need to place someone between us and God to rely on and mediate between us, to tell us God’s truths and secrets. But in the New Covenant, His word has been written on your heart and He has chosen to make you His permanent dwelling place. This indeed makes you a Chosen, Holy, Royal, Priest.

CHOSEN HOLY ROYAL PRIEST – is your Identity!

Daily Reminder

You don’t have to work to be a Chosen Holy Royal Priest, you already are a Chosen Holy Royal Priest because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.

– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.

– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.

Good News  – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.

We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Rest in Him today.

Lord of Lords,

Thank You for choosing me as a holy, royal, priest, that nothing or no one is needed to mediate between us. Thank You that You share directly with me Your intimate thoughts, truths, and promises. I am listening to hear them today and I declare Your praises. Thank You Jesus!
