Day 22 – Who He Says I Am Series

“For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin–because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

– Romans 6:6-7

In Christ – 

YOU ARE NOT POWERED BY SIN, BUT EMPOWERED BY GRACE

What is pink, wears sunglasses, flip flops, and beats a bass drum? The Energizer Bunny of course! One of the advertising world’s most famed accomplishments. The Energizer Bunny was actually created as a parody of their rival battery company, Duracell’s, lesser known original mascot bunny. Duracell used their mascot to claim that their battery lasted longer than other batteries (as long as they were carbon-zinc batteries). But the Energizer Bunny came on the scene claiming to have the ability to continue to operate indefinitely. What a claim! All battery companies knew that alkaline batteries, such as Energizer, could outlast carbon-zinc batteries, but Energizer claimed that their batteries would outlast them all. Their claim was that their power “keeps going, and going, and going…” with no end. While I don’t know how long an Energizer battery will actually last, I do know that Grace is the eternal power given to you and to me. Grace isn’t just an act of benevolence, Grace is a person. Grace is Jesus. Grace lives in you. You have been crucified with Him. He took your sin to the cross and paid the ultimate price. He took your sin and gave you His righteousness. What a trade off! It is The Great Exchange. Your sin for His righteousness. It’s a gift. You are no longer powered by sin, but empowered by Grace. And this power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. (Romans 8:11) And it will surely keep going and going and going until the day of Christ’s return. (Philippians 1:6) In Grace, your desires come from Jesus. He’s the one that places them in your heart. (Psalm 37:4). That’s where the power comes from. I love how The Message Version reminds us of Jesus’ words in Matthew 11, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” These “unforced rhythms of grace” are His power and energy working in us day by day. It’s His Power of Grace. Rest today in the Power of Grace that lives in you.

EMPOWERED BY GRACE – is your Identity! 

Daily Reminder

You don’t have to work to be Empowered by Grace, you already are Empowered by Grace because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.

– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.

– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.

Good News  – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.

We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Rest in Him today.

Gracious Father,

Thank You for empowering me. In my own strength, I can do nothing. It’s Your strength that empowers me to love, serve, and forgive. It’s the very power of Jesus living His life through me. I will rest as You live out Your life through me today. Thank You Jesus!

I must admit that I am a bit of an enigma: a half-Italian Alabama native who hosts giant groups of friends and family every chance I get, but will also sneak away to a private corner to read a good book or journal my latest thoughts. I am passionate about pointing people to Jesus. I am compelled to share what He has done in my life and all that He has taught me. I desperately want people to see Him for who He really is and not all the attachments that religion has put on Him. I long for people, believers and unbelievers alike, to understand the Truth - the uncensored, un-manipulated Truth of the Gospel. Because of the blood of Jesus, the Life He gave on the Cross, we are unconditionally loved by the Father and once we place our faith in Jesus, we are forever in right standing with God. It is the power of the finished work of the Cross. I am in awe and live to proclaim- Thank You Jesus! Come along with me as we Journey to Grace Land!
