Day 24 – Who He Says I Am Series
“in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
– Romans 8:37
In Christ –
YOU ARE MORE THAN A CONQUEROR
One of my favorite British Literature tales is Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (author unknown) which is a part of the King Author and Camelot tradition. The story is about a brave mortal knight in King Aurthor’s court, Sir Gawain, who accepts the challenge to fight the much feared Giant Green Knight. However, very quickly the story takes an unexpected turn when Sir Gawain cuts off the head of the Green Knight and the Green Knight quickly picks it up and hauntingly declares that he will see Gawain again on the one year anniversary of this day. He then rides away with head in hand proving to be immortal and incapable of defeat. Unfortunately, Sir Gawain had already agreed to face the Giant Green Knight on the year anniversary of their initial meeting and offer the giant his own neck if the giant is not defeated by his blow. The long and terrifying year slowly passes. After being tested 3 times, Sir Gawain reveals his trustworthiness and due respect to the disguised Green Knight who later proceeds to spare his life. Sir Gawain returns to Camelot and King Author’s court as a hailed hero – a conquerer. Only, he actually never did any of the conquering. He merely was persuaded to believe that he could. During one of the tests to which he was subjected, Sir Gawain was given a token – a green silk cloth, and told that the token has a magical ability to protect him from death. It was through his belief in this token that gave him the strength to face the immortal knight that was going to take Gawain’s life but didn’t. Gawain was a conqueror because he believed. Gawain was a conqueror because he was protected. As a believer in Christ you are also protected. This doesn’t mean that you won’t find yourself in situations that are scary or harmful, but what it does mean is that you are not alone and you have been given something much better than a magical token to protect you from death. For the One who lives within you has conquered even death itself. Whom shall you fear? (Psalm 27:1) Rest today in knowing that the war has already been won and you have been given the victory. A person who has been declared a conqueror has already conquered. That is who you are. You are the hailed hero. The battle has already been given to you. You are the victor because of what Jesus did on the cross. He has overcome the world and the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (John 16:33, Romans 8:11) Just as Sir Gawain was persuaded to believe that the token he was given would protect him, we are fully persuaded to confidently believe that God will do whatever He has promised. (Romans 4:1) It is by His persuasion and His declaration. He has boldly declared you a conqueror. Not just a conqueror, but more than a conqueror because you are in Christ Jesus. Whatever you face today, even giants that seem incapable of defeat, remember that God is bigger. It’s important to tell God about your problems – big and small, but it’s vitally more important to tell your problems, the giants in your life, about your even bigger God. He has the final say. Jesus declared, it is finished. And greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
MORE THAN A CONQUEROR – is your Identity!
Daily Reminder
You don’t have to work to be More than a Conqueror, you already are More than a Conqueror because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.
– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.
– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.
Good News – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.
We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)
Rest in Him today
King of Kings,
Thank You for fighting my battles and giving me the victory. Thank You for declaring me the conqueror. I rise up today knowing that is who I am in You. There is no problem too big and no situation too hard for You to handle. This is what You are famous for. Today, I will rest in You. Thank You Jesus!
