HEIR OF GOD

Day 30 – Who He Says I Am Series

“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.”

– Romans 8:17

In Christ –

YOU ARE AN HEIR OF GOD

Freckles, big ears, and long (or in my case – short) legs are all things we can inherit from our parents or grandparents. Inheritance can come in many forms from genetics to property to royal titles. An heir is a person who is legally entitled to the property of another. In our case as believers, we inherit the riches, blessings, and benefits earned by Jesus. This is a concept I used to not understand. For many years as a believer, I had a wrong view of the Bible. I thought that the point of the Bible was to point out my sin. But the point of the Christian Bible, cover to cover, is about Christ. It’s about Jesus and what He did. It’s not about me and what I need to do. The Old Covenant foreshadows Jesus and the New Covenant reflects Him. Don’t make the mistake I made for so many years in my Christian walk and focus on yourself when you read the Bible. That’s narcissistic Christianity. Frankly, it’s idolizing self and sin. That’s how I was taught. But there is a better focus. Focus on Jesus. That’s who the whole Bible is about. It’s like looking through an old album and trying to find your parents or grandparents when they looked much younger. When you look through an old family photo album, you get excited when you pick them out, “I found you!, Here you are! Look at you here! Don’t you look beautiful!” Now when I read the Old Testament, I see Jesus the same way, “Look, Jesus, there you are! Here you are in this one! Oh look, I found you here and you’re so beautiful!” When I read Genesis, I see Jesus in the garden. When Adam and Eve sinned, they tried to cover themselves with fig leaves. This is the first time we see the mention of figs or fig leaves in the Bible and if you are familiar with The Law of First Mention, you know that it’s important to take note of what the fig leaves represent the first time they are mentioned, because the thread continues in other places throughout the Bible. We can see here that the fig leaves represent self effort or self righteousness. (Keep this in mind when you read in Matthew where Jesus curses the fig tree at it’s root). The fig leaves were Adam and Eve’s attempt to cover their own sin. But what did God do? God took away the fig leaves and covered them with animal skins. Do you see Jesus? This is the Gospel right here in the Garden of Eden, in the first book of the Bible. The animal skins are a foreshadow of Jesus. Look, Jesus, I see you there, and you are so beautiful! That beauty, that glory, is shared with you. You are a co-heir with Christ.  All the riches Christ has received belong to you as well. We are joint heirs with Him (Romans 8:17) An heir doesn’t earn riches. An heir is simply born. An heir is an heir because of blood. An heir receives the riches from his Father through no work or deserving of his own. We are heirs of God. Because of the blood of Jesus, we have been born again, born into the family of God. We are joint heirs with Christ.  We inherit riches, blessing, and favor because of who our Father is, not because of who we are. He bestows all things good to us because of His goodness, not ours. If you are hoping or believing for something in your life today, don’t focus on whether or not you deserve it, because the fact is, we don’t. And the good news is we don’t have to. Focus today on Jesus and the Incredible love of our Father. Receive the free gifts and blessings and favor He has in store for you, because He is good and wants to give good gifts to His children. (Matthew 7:11)

HEIR OF GOD – is your Identity!

Daily Reminder

You don’t have to work to be an Heir of God, you already are an Heir of God because Christ gave you a new identity. His identity. This is who you are because of who He is, not who you have to try to become.

– Religion tells us what to do to become, which equals self reliance – the focus is on self.

– The truth of the Gospel tells us who we are because of who Jesus is and what He did – the focus is on Jesus.

Good News  – Our Father in heaven is pleased with you because of what Jesus did – it all hinges on Him not us.

We are in union with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17). When our Daddy in heaven looks at you, He sees Jesus, and He is nothing but pleased. (Matthew 3:17)

Rest in Him today

Daddy God,

Thank You for Your inheritance. I never earned or deserved any good thing, but out of Your goodness alone, You have given me blessings, favor, and a life lived with You for eternity. Because of Jesus, I will rest in Your abundance. Thank You Jesus!
